Joe Tom Terrell - The Cherokeean Herald

Joe Tom Terrell of Jacksonville, went to be with the Lord on February 13, 2021, 3 days before his 90th birthday. Joe was born in Chandler, Texas and attended school in

Chandler also. He served in the Navy for 4 years, and later received a BS degree from East Texas State Teachers College. In addition he received degrees from the School of Mortgage Banking - Northwestern University and the Southwest School of Banking SMU. He was Vice President and Branch Manager for the T.J. Betts Co. for 7.5 years. His banking career with First National Bank (Jacksonville) began in 1961 as Executive Vice President and Director, and he served as Vice Chairman and Director until he retired from Austin Bank in 2001. He served as Director Emeritus at Austin Bank until his death.

Joe was a member of Central Baptist Church, Kiwanis Club, American Legion, Mason/ Scottish Rite, Shriners, and the Sheriffs Assn. He also served as a leader in Boy Scouts, Board Chairman of Cherokee Co. Appraisal District, Director and past president of Rusk Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Cherokee Co. Industrial Board, member of Rusk Industrial Board, Treasurer of Rural Community Health System of Texas, and President of Rusk Quarterback Club.

Joe loved basketball, hunting, boating and all outdoor sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jack & Willie Jo Terrell; son Tommy Terrell; wife Evelyn Dorman Terrell; and step grandson Matt Dorman.

He is survived by his wife Harriet Dacus Terrell; his step son Terry Dorman and wife Barbi of The Woodlands; grandsons Thomas Terrell, Dallas and Trenton Terrell and wife Terri, Whitehouse; step grandson Cristopher Terrell and wife Maria and their children Stella and Luca. Joe is also survived by his cousins Jeff Austin Jr. and wife Sissy, Jane Chapman and husband Bob, Cindy Gordon and husband Joe, Sandra Bright and husband John.

Due to covid-19 there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd. Tyler 75701 or Central Baptist Church, 1909 E Rusk St. Jacksonville 75766
