More than $17,000 handed out to 40 local organizations - WGEM

QUINCY, IL (WGEM) - Help is on the way to organizations that help kids in the Quincy and Adams County area.

Monday was Grant Allocation Day for the Quincy Noon Kiwanis

In March, the group raised $17,000 from their online auction.

The money was distributed among 40 different organizations, including teachers.

"With these allocations, we are helping over 21,000 kids in the area," said Brad Essington, Kiwanis Club President. "And we knew with COVID that our partnering agencies needed the money."

Officials with one of those organizations, Birthright of Quincy, said this donation helps out in a big way.

They have been very busy during the pandemic.

"Without the generosity of organizations like Kiwanis and the generosity of our community we wouldn't be able to do anything, because we do operate strictly from donations," said Patty Adam, Birthright of Quincy President.

Essington added there will be a second round of grant funds to hand out.

That will be from funds the raised from their second online auction.
