BRUNSWICK COUNTY -- The Southport-Oak Island Kiwanis’ 5K Fun Run Walk

will begin at 8 a.m. April 20 at Southport’s Waterfront Park, located at the corner of West Bay and South Lord Street. This signature event is part of the Southport Spring Festival held on April 19 and 20 in downtown Southport, and is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Southport-Oak Island.

The entry fee is $25 if received on or before April 19 and $30 on race day. The entry fee includes a signature T-shirt.

The 5K fun Run walk will go through historic downtown Southport and down the waterfront of the Cape Fear River. The course is paved asphalt and is mostly flat.

Pre-registered runners can pick up their registration packet between 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. April 19 at the North Carolina Maritime Museum, 204 E. Moore St., Southport. Forms will be available for last minute registration at the Museum and on race day, 6:30-7:40 a.m. at Waterfront Park.

The run-walk participants will be divided into eight age groups, 13 and under to 70 and over, and the runners of each age group for men and women will have first, second, and third place winners. Each winner will received a piece of artwork created by local artist, Ricky Evans.

All the proceeds will be used by the Southport Oak-Island Kiwanis Club to provide services to the youth of Brunswick County.
