Membership Drive: President Elect Frank Frerich reported that letters of invitation were mailed to firms within about 1+ mile of our meeting place. Frank is putting a lot of effort into this. Frank, Valerie Stoj and Glen Fineman will approach the recipients of the letters in person next week, each joined by an experienced Kiwanian including Governor Sue Waldren. When potential new members will join us we are encouraged to welcome them openly and sit with them at the tables instead of on our traditional chairs.

Flag Placement: Dennis Cronin lead the placement on Labor Day, September 2. Seven members placed flags in the morning and 5 picked them up in the evening. The next and last placement for this calendar year will be on November 11, Veterans’ Day.

District 20 Breakfast: Valerie, Frank, Glen, Bruce and Rod attended the 7 am meeting on September 3. Some highlights: Bellevue Morning Club is leading a September 11 observance at American Heroes Park, including ringing of Four Fives, recognizing Families of the Fallen, and a citizenship ceremony for 30 individuals. The Bellevue Morning Club also celebrated the Centennial of the NE/IA District with a $500 donation to the District Foundation in name of the Crossman Fellowship. (Crossman was the first Kiwanis International president from NE/AI District).This was the last meeting chaired by Lt. Gov. Barb O’Donnell. The Lt. Gov. for 2019/2020 is Hank Schaben. Omaha Inc Kiwanis has a Centennial Celebration on September 12.

Annual Dues Letters: Treasurer Vernon Waldren will hand deliver or mail dues letters shortly. Our psid number of members will be reported to International on October 10..

Installation Dinner, September 26: Reservations continue to come in to Valerie Stoj. Please prepay Vernon Waldren $25 for dinner.

Drawing: Lucky Bob Lodes removed the 9 of Diamonds.

Happy Bucks: Sheriff Ralph Peppard always makes this fun as members reported their happy events.

Interclub: Another attempt at an interclub at Southwest Kiwanis was scheduled for Thursday, September 4.

Today’s Program: Valerie Stoj introduced her former business associate Sara Church, who reported on their successful raising of egg-laying hens and other birds on an acreage near the Douglas / Washington County border. She also promoted a program that provides potential chicken owners with 2 hens and everything else needed for a fixed price for a 6-month trial period. Just call 1-724-305-0782. As a special treat she gave away 4 sets of 6 eggs, each of a different color, which depends on the chicken’s DNA. There is always something new to be learned!
