Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha
 
Founded in 1938 for Kiwanis Club of Greater Omaha and founded in 1961 for Kiwanis Club Westside which have merged together to form the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha. Each has a rich history of community service throughout the years. We are an eclectic mix of ages, genders, occupations, backgrounds and interests. We are all passionate about making our community and the world a better place for children so they can thrive. We are devoted to serving the children in our local community and also children all across the country and worldwide through unique and innovative service projects and fundraising initiatives. Members and invited guests meet each Monday at Noon for food, fellowship, and for the opportunity to hear from speakers about important matters in our region.

The meeting was opened with a prayer led by Joanne.  This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance

 
Attendance, 15 West Omaha members.  Also in attendance were the three scholarship recipients, their parents, and school counselor.

 

The 50/50 drawing was not held. 
 
Rod collected Happy Bucks.
 
Kip started the business discussion:
Dale reported on Sacred Heart.  The next date is April 25 and the scheduled readers include Dave and Barb.  
Dale also reported on Completely Kids.  The next date is April 30 with the scheduled team members as Ralph, Rich, Dennis, and Dale.  
The Sacred Heart Zoo trip is scheduled for May 9.
Dennis reported that the mailings for the Flag Program have shown positive initial responses - he has received $875 from donors.  The first placement date     
is May 17, Armed Forces Day.
Barb reported that she received a nice thank you letter from Ronald McDonald House representatives due to the recent 30 frozen meals Barb 
recently delivered.   
Rod reported that coming in May are two events that we, as a Club, typically provide volunteering support.   These are AllPlay and The Special Olympics.  
Check their website for volunteer opportunities.  More to follow in coming meetings.
Dennis submitted his team registration for the Golf Event. 
 
Kip gave a short summary, for the benefit of the guests, on Club efforts that in addition to the Scholarship Program includes a Golf Event, adoption of the                 
Sacred Heart Second Grade Class, Clothes and Backpacks for Kids, AllPlay, Special Olympics, and more.
 
Jack conducted the Scholarship Presentation Program which included recipient introduction, a summary of their application, brief questions about their future plans, and reviews from their school counselor.  The three recipients, each from Marian High School:

The next meeting is scheduled for April 21, at Legends.

The following date is May 20.
Greg reported on the Sacred Heart Zoo trip scheduled for May 9.  Volunteers are needed to walk with the Kids and those with memberships 
would help the process.  Plan to arrive at the Zoo before or by 10 AM.  The visit will have a lunch time and usually lasts until about 2 PM.
Glen discussed March service hours.  If not already done so, please give him your hours as soon as possible.
Dennis reported that the mailings for the Flag Program were sent this week.
Barb reported the Ronald McDonald meal program.  Last week she purchased and delivered the second delivery of 30 frozen meals.   
She stated that the third delivery will have members preparing a meal later this summer.
Steve reported on the Golf Event.  The Flier was finalized and distributed this last week.  The participants are getting identified, raffle 
items provided, etc.  Steve stated he would start contacting members in a more determined effort to gain support.
Jack reported that the Scholarship Award Luncheon is scheduled for next week, April 14.  Maximum attendance is encouraged.
Deb reminded everyone that she is always collecting donation items for homeless shelters.  
 
The Guest Speaker was Teresa Mardesen, the Executive Director of SHARE Omaha. 

 

The next meeting is scheduled for April 14, at Legends.
