Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha
 
Founded in 1938 for Kiwanis Club of Greater Omaha and founded in 1961 for Kiwanis Club Westside which have merged together to form the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha. Each has a rich history of community service throughout the years. We are an eclectic mix of ages, genders, occupations, backgrounds and interests. We are all passionate about making our community and the world a better place for children so they can thrive. We are devoted to serving the children in our local community and also children all across the country and worldwide through unique and innovative service projects and fundraising initiatives. Members and invited guests meet each Monday at Noon for food, fellowship, and for the opportunity to hear from speakers about important matters in our region.

The meeting was opened with a prayer from Kip.  This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
Attendance - 12 members.  There were two guests with Ralph for the second straight week:
Ralph's wife Connie
Gordon Baily, Ralph's friend from England
 
The 50/50 drawing was held and there was no winner.
 
Rod collected Happy Bucks.
 
Kip led a short business discussion:
A Board Meeting was held last week on July 15.  One item of discussion was the donations
approved by the Board.  Kip has sent a Club-wide email with information.
In addition, a $500 donation to AllPlay was confirmed by the Board.
 
Rod provided that the next session of AllPlay activity will start soon.  If you are able to
volunteer please go to allplay.org to sign up.
 
Joann was sick today and not able to collect Mac-&-Cheese boxes for the District Convention.
Please bring your boxes next week. 
     
The guest speaker this week was Adrienne Moody with the Nebraska Department of Health and 
Human Services who talked on Radon. 
 
The next meeting is Monday, July 28 at Legends.

One for Joann to take to a Clinic and Pharmacy at 36th & Farnam.
The second Deb will take to Sienna Francis Houae. 
The next Board Meeting is scheduled for July 15, at 6:30 PM, at the TD2 Offices.
 
Rod discussed Membership:
Reminded everyone to have Club Business Cards ready and use whenever possible.
 
Joann reminded everyone bring boxes of Mac & Cheese for a contest between the Nebraska
and Iowa Clubs for the District Convention.  The last day of collection is the last Monday in
July, the 28th.
     
There was not a guest speaker this week but several Kiwanis members talked about personal experiences. 
 
The next meeting is Monday, July 21 at Legends.

The next Flag placement is Friday the 4th of July.  More volunteers are still needed so please contact Dennis
if you can help.
Dennis stated that approximately 90% of the 170 participants have sent in their donation. 
 
Joann discussed two items:
She has information on a July 16 webinar "Ways to Engage Clubs".  Sign up is required, contact Joann.  Subjects include how to help 
struggling clubs.
She is also asking for donations of mac & cheese boxes to donate at the upcoming District Convention. It is
intended as a fun contest with the other clubs.  July 14 is the final donation date.
 
Glen reminded everyone to get their June service hours to him as soon as possible.
 
The guest speaker was Connor Nichols with Conservation Nebraska.
     
The next meeting is July 7, with Jan Jackson - Assistance League of Omaha (Intro Jack Jackson) as the guest speaker, 
at Legends.

Kip led the business discussion:
Dennis reported that the July 4 Flag placement was a success with good attendance of volunteers and 170
flags placed.
The dates for the last two flag placements are Labor Day, September 1 and September 11. 
 
The next Board Meeting is scheduled for July 15, at 6:30 PM, at the TD2 Offices.
 
Rod discussed Membership:
Extra business cards are available and each person should keep these handy for those unexpected situations.
Dale and Frank have stated they would help with the membership committee.
 
Joann discussed two items:
She reminded everyone that there is a July 12 on-line Kiwanis training webinar.
The District Convention is scheduled for August 1 and 2.  There is a contest between Nebraska and Iowa clubs
on who can collect the most donations of mac & cheese boxes.  Reminded each of us bring mac & cheese
boxes to upcoming meetings.
            
Vince stated that he is planning a Club social tentatively the weekend of Aug 23.
 
The guest speaker was Jan Jackson with the Assistance League.
     
The next meeting is July 14, during which we will not have a guest speaker but Kiwanis members talk may for 3 to 5   
minutes to share life/work stories.
