Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha
 
Founded in 1938 for Kiwanis Club of Greater Omaha and founded in 1961 for Kiwanis Club Westside which have merged together to form the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha. Each has a rich history of community service throughout the years. We are an eclectic mix of ages, genders, occupations, backgrounds and interests. We are all passionate about making our community and the world a better place for children so they can thrive. We are devoted to serving the children in our local community and also children all across the country and worldwide through unique and innovative service projects and fundraising initiatives. Members and invited guests meet each Monday at Noon for food, fellowship, and for the opportunity to hear from speakers about important matters in our region.

The meeting was opened with a prayer from Frank.  This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
Attendance - 16 members.  
 
The 50/50 drawing was held and there was no winner.
 
Frank collected Happy Bucks.
 
Frank led the business discussion:
Linda Placzek is scheduled on November 24 to present the KiwanisYouth Protection and Policy. 
Dale discussed Sacred Heart.  There was a reading last Friday and speakers were Barb, Dave,
Dale, and Glen.  The next date November 7.  Scheduled speakers are Rich and Glen but
more are needed.  Contact Dale if you can help.
Dale also updated Completely Kids.  The next date is next Tuesday, October 28.  Volunteers
are Frank, Rod, Ralph, and Rich. 
Barb updated the Clothes for Kids program.  The scheduled date for working with the families and
Kids is Tuesday, November 4 at 6 PM..  Barb has possibly 16 kids planned and she passed a 
sign up sheet for volunteers.  Let Barb know if you can help.
Vince passed around a sign up sheet for volunteers to schedule guest speakers.  Let Vince know
if you can help.
Deb reminded everyone to help whenever possible by bringing packaged food - cans, boxes of 
cereal, packages of spaghetti - to future meetings for her to donate.
Frank stated that the Club will donate funds to Tracey Scissors-Domgard for support of three 
Key Leaders at an upcoming meeting.
Rod reminded everyone of the Membership Meeting on October 27.  The Membership Committee
has made many contacts including area businesses and former members.  Each Club Member
should try to attend the meeting and bring any possible membership candidates.
 
This week's speaker was Jack Swanda with Boomer Radio.
 
The next Club Meeting is October 27th, at Legends - The New Member Meeting.  All Members 
should attend if possible.

Frank asked if someone would volunteer to do an Inter club. Greg Volunteered.
Frank will contact Linda Placzek to present a program to our club on Youth Protection and Policy. 
A decision was made to skip the December 29th meeting. 
Joann said there are people in Minden, IA that would like to start a Kiwanis club. Linda Placzek 
will be the one responsible to follow up on this.
Joann said our members might get a message inviting us to a Zoom Division 13 Council Meeting. 
It's being held in Red Oak, IA on November 4th at 6:30 pm.
 
Rod reminded everyone that he will be presenting a program on membership on October 27. 
He gave everyone a handout to give to prospective members. He's encouraging members to 
attend and bring a prospect. Suggested reaching out to former members He would like to have 
any pictures you have of our projects/functions to display at this meeting. Our club will pick up 
the cost of the meal for the guests.

Dale said the next reading at Sacred Heart is Friday, October 17th at 2 pm.  Dale, Glen, Barb and 
Dave volunteered. The next readings are November 7th and November 21st. Let Dale know if 
you're available. 
Dale also reported on Completely Kids is October 28th. Let Dale know if you are available.
 
Deb brought in toothbrushes and toothpaste for the homeless shelters.
 
Thank you to Deb for taking cans to the recycling plant and donating the $17.00 to the club.  
Don't forget to save your aluminum cans for Deb.

Frank thanked everyone for attending the Installation Dinner last week.
Glen thanked everyone that sent him their September service hours. He said you can 
still send them if you haven't done it yet. 
Rod reminded everyone that he will be presenting a program on membership on October 27.

Dennis is signing up for two in November. Kip is signing up for January. Frank suggested keeping 
the 5th Monday of the month open for our members to talk a little about themselves.
 
Joann had five Installations for other District Clubs last week.

Kip led a business discussion:
Dale reported on Sacred Heart.  The reading on September 26 was successful.  The readers were 
Greg, Glen, Dale, and Ralph.  The upcoming schedule includes October 10 and 17.
Completely Kids was completed on September 24.  Dale , Joann, and Ralph were the Club
volunteers.  The next scheduled event is October 28.  Volunteers include Rod, Greg, and Dale.
Barb completed delivery of the ordered meals for the Ronald McDonald House.  This year's
program is complete.
Dennis reported on the completed Flag Program.  Total donations were $9,252, expenses were
$1,714, and the total income $7,538.  A successful program.
Glen reminded everyone to send him their September service hours as soon as possible.
Rod reported on the Membership program.  He still plans on a new member meeting/program at 
the end of October.  Rod plans to make business contacts in the Legends Area.

Upcoming Meetings:
The Installation Dinner is September 30 at the Champions Country Club.  Participation appears
 good this year.
