Laycie Lambert is no stranger to awards. She was recently recognized as Pell City High School’s Teacher of the Year for 2017-2018. She was named as the Alabama Association of Agricultural Educators Teacher of Teachers in 2010, 2014, and 2017.

On Jan. 4, Lambert was awarded Pell City Kiwanis Club Teacher of the Month, in recognition of “dedication and outstanding service” to education.

“It is an honor to be recognized, but it could be any of our teachers,” Lambert said upon receiving the Teacher of the Month certificate and a check for $100 for supplies. “We have a great staff at the high school.  This will be put to good use in my classroom.”

Lambert has taught Agricultural Education at Pell City High School for the past 17 years, and she has been at Pell City High School since beginning her teaching career in 2002. She teaches numerous classes including Agriscience, Construction Framing, Metal Fabrication, Veterinary Science and Floral Design.

Lambert is also a Future Farmers of America (FFA) sponsor, which has been named one of the top five chapters in the Alabama FFA Association. Several students have competed on the national level and one student was a State FFA officer last year. Lambert has served as the Central District FFA Advisor and is currently the County Agricultural Chairman.

After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Business and Economics from Auburn University in 1998, Lambert worked in industry for a year. She returned to Auburn to become a business education teacher.

“A professor from the university sought me out and asked if I would be interested in teaching high school agriculture,” Lambert said. “After speaking with him, I changed my major that day. I graduated from Auburn in 2001 with a degree in Agricultural Education. At that time, there were currently six female AG teachers in Alabama. Today, there are over 30.”

Pell City High School Principal Dr. Tony Dowdy was also present to support Lambert at the Kiwanis meeting.

“Our second semester is off to a great start,” Dowdy said. “We have a lot of great things to offer students. We want to continue to build relationships with businesses in town to offer those opportunities to our students.  Your (Kiwanis) involvement in our community means a lot to us and to our students.”
