Kiwanis Club seeking entries for annual parade - Brazil Times

The Kiwanis Club of Brazil wants local residents to experience some childhood memories this year during the “Kids at Heart” themed event and parade on Saturday, Sept. 23.

With a love of children and a desire to help further their education and health, Kiwanis Clubs support kids programs and various charities, including local boys and girls scout groups, back pack programs, 4-H and Riley Children’s Hospital among many scholarships other programs like Northview Key Club.

The Key Club hosts the annual K-Day queen/king and princess/prince pageant. Contestants sell tickets for the K-Day breakfast fundraiser, with the highest sales determining who reigns. Coronation of the queen/king and their courts will be Thursday, Sept. 21.

Local organizations, churches, school clubs and other interested groups are encouraged to join in the fun and get creative while decorating a truck, car or flat-bed trailer — or go all out and construct a float — for the K-Day Parade.

Line up begins at 1 p.m. and the parade will start at 2. Candy can be tossed to children along the street, flyers can be handed out by participants who walk through the parade.

There is no entry fee for participation. Beginning at US 40 and Depot Street, the parade will travel east, ending at the Clay County Courthouse.

Celebrity judges will be seated in front of Brazil City Hall deciding on first-, second- and third-place winners, which will receive a donation from the Kiwanis Club. Prizes include $100 for first, $75 for second and $50 for third place entries.

Don’t forget breakfast.

The Kiwanis Club of Brazil will also host its annual pancake and sausage breakfast at the Veterans’ of Foreign Wars Post 1127, located on south Depot Street, from 7 a.m.-noon. Adults can eat for $6, kids ages 2-12 for $4 and children 2 and under eat for free.

All proceeds will go to the Riley Children’s Hospital, boys and girls scouts and various other local children’s charities.
