Omaha Westside Kiwanis News July 12, 2017

Olive Garden Restaurant, 75th and Dodge, Wednesday, July 12, 2017.

Past President John Seigel lead the meeting, Ralph Peppard lead the patriotic song... and Barbara St.John gave the invocation.

Guest: Barbara St.John introduced her neighbor, Barbara Hutchinson, who has been very supportive with the Ronald McDonald meals. More meals will be provided in September and October.

July Board Meeting: Because of important business meetings President Dennis Cronin had to re-schedule the board meeting and was not able to attend today’s luncheon. A new date will be announced for the board meeting. How a job can get in the way of Kiwanis Business! 😟

Upcoming Speakers:

July 19: Mark Musick – “The Real Story of Howard Hughes”.

July 26: Mike Kelly, Omaha World-Herald

August 2: Tom Shatel, Omaha World-Herald

August 9: Lunch with long time member Bill Morrison at the Papillion Manor.

Today’s Speaker: David Huelsmann introduced co-anchor of the WOWT-NBC evening news Malorie Maddox. Malorie, who stressed twice that she just turned 40 years OLD, has been with the station for 13 years, starting with the morning news and co-anchoring the evening news with John Knicely for many years. She spoke about her family (husband and 6-year-old son) and the challenges in today’s broadcasting environment in competition with social media. A lively Q & A time helped us understand more about the important role of TV broadcasting and Malorie’s part of it.
