The Kiwanis Club of Northern Door brings popular award-winning travel film producer and lecturer Buddy Hatton back to Door County to present his travelogue "Mongolia, the Land of Genghis Khan," the fourth program of the club's Travel and Adventure Film Series.Outer Mongolia lies at the heart of Asia, on the balance between China and the vast wilderness of Siberia. This huge, sparsely populated land encompasses a fabulous array of pristine landscapes and a nomadic people whose lives are in many ways unchanged from the days of Genghis Khan and the mighty Mongol Empire. In Mongolia, where nomadic herders still depend on nature for survival, visitors can find open space, untouched wilderness and pristine air and water in abundance, each cherished by the Mongolian people. Like Genghis' Mongol Empire that stretched from Japan to Hungary, Mongolia today remains a place of natural and cultural diversity and adventure.Hatton's film features awesome expanses of rolling steppe, home to Mongolia's famous horses and herdsmen. Moviegoers will view spectacular high glacial mountains, impenetrable forests and deep, crystal lakes and thrill at the world famous Nadaam Festival. The film visits family in the Gobi Desert, explores the real story of Genghis Khan and much more."Mongolia, the Land of Genghis Khan" plays at 7:30 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 954 S. Bay Shore Drive, Sister Bay.Admission is $7 at the door for ages 18 and older for series nonsubscribers; subscriptions are $36 for ages 18 and older for the six-travelogue series.Refreshments are available during intermission.
