Kiwanis Club of Omaha Westside

Members of the Mineola County Seat Kiwanis all joined together Saturday afternoon to make sure the community center was ready for the usual crowd who would pack their annual pancake breakfast event each year on Super Bowl Sunday. Entire families are usually lined up when the doors open at 8 a.m. through last call at noon, waiting for their plates full of pancakes donated by IHOP of Williston Park, together with sausages donated by Kiwanis member and Churrasquiera Bairrada owner Manny Carvalho. Additional local business owners also donate their products and their time to make this event a success for all the charities supported by the County Seat Kiwanis. Kiwanis President Ed Schutz, a retired electrical contractor, donates hundreds of hours each month to the Kiwanis, while the trio of chairs for the event include lawyers Russ Burcheri and Paul May and banker/photographer Joel Harris. Minuteman Press owner Steve Parmett is another Kiwanis member who constantly gives back to the community that supports him by donating thousands of dollars worth of printing each year. Busy setting the tables were real estate broker Lois Hansen and public insurance adjuster Harry Peters, who were joined by attorney Jackie Carway, retiree Gabe Parajos, Judges Scott Fairgrieve and Robert Rosenthal as well as Rich Forte, the owner of an interstate shipping company. The Village of Mineola contributes to the event by supplying the venue and the Mineola Fire Department helps out by providing the kitchen facilities across the street. All donations of food, advertising and free labor helps the Kiwanis to keep the price down so that the event could remain a family friendly meal again this year. Adult family members are only $8 for all they can eat with kids under 12 at $4; seniors are only $6.
