Kiwanis to host shower for children's hospital - The Hillsdale Daily News

The Kiwanis Club of Hillsdale will be hosting the 10th annual shower for C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the First United Methodist Church. The meeting will begin at noon. Child Life Specialist Dan Fischer will be the guest speaker.C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, at the University of Michigan Health System, is nationally recognized for excellence in clinical services, research and education. The new 12-story, 1.1 million square foot, state-of-the-art facility will enable them to fulfill their continued commitment of providing newborns, children and pregnant women with the best health care possible.Club secretary Joan Van Arsdalen said toys and gifts are needed yearround for children from infancy through age 18.“All gifts should conform to the safety and sanitary guidelines,” VanArsdalen said. “The hospital will check the gifts for safety and age appropriateness, so it is asked that they not be wrapped. Gift wrapping paper, ribbons, tape and tags are always a welcome donation.”During the calendar year 2010, Mott Hospital serviced 62 inpatients and 604 outpatients from Hillsdale County. The city of Hillsdale alone had 16 inpatients and 204 outpatients.“So, one can see you are truly helping our children with your donations,” VanArsdalen said. “The Child and Family Life program, with support from community donors, helps to make the stays of patients a little easier through play, teaching, crafts, art and music therapies and medical play.” The Kiwanis Club of Hillsdale will be hosting the 10th annual shower for C.S.
