Plans are in place for the Town of Huntington’s Black History Month Celebration.
The keynote address for the Feb. 2 event will be presented by Rev. Kevin D. Jordan, a ministerial staff member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Huntington and Dean of Academic Support Services at Dowling College. Entertainment will be provided by the Michael Jazz Trio from Central Islip. The family group, consisting of three teenage brothers, has played throughout Long Island, at the Apollo Theater and the Friars Club in Manhattan.
The public event begins at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
In other town news, The Kiwanis Club of Huntington staged its Field of Honor Return Appreciation Celebration Jan. 9 at Honu Kitchen & Cocktails in Huntington to thank supporters of its recent Field of Honor flag display at Town Hall which raised money for philanthropic efforts.
Town Board members Susan Berland, Mark Cuthbertson, Mark Mayoka and Eugene Cook were on hand for the event to thank donors and sponsors, according to a press release.
"The Kiwanis Club reminds us all to thank not only the men and women who serve our country but the families who sacrifice their time with loved ones who serve; they all make an incredible sacrifice to allow us to appreciate the freedom that we enjoy in our great country,” said Cook, in a release.
