Olive Garden Restaurant, 75th and Dodge, Wednesday, January 25, 2012.

We sadly learn of the passing of our long time club member Jim Krier. Details about visitation and funeral services are in the newspaper.

President Dennis Cronin lead the meeting, the pledge of allegiance and the patriotic song and Bill Morrisson gave the invocation.

Fireworks Fundraising: There is still a possibility of getting approval for a great location off Dodge Street if one building tenant agrees. Time is very short to submit an application. The membership voted to attempt to still get this approved with one abstention.

Midyear Conference: Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 from 7:30 to 4:30. Glen Fineman, Jack Jackson, Bill Morrisson, Dennis Cronin and possibly Joe Schmidtke plan on attending for an interclub and two delegate votes.

Ronald McDonald Dinner: One of our club service projects. Also on Feb. 4 beginning about 5pm. Ralph Peppard will prepare beef stroganoff at the Florence VFW on Friday to bring. Rod and Linda Jones and granddaughter Mattie will bring dessert.

Interclub: Downtown Plattsmouth at "Mom's Café" last week. All had a great time, Teri Layton, Bill Morrisson, Dick Williams. (Don't order the steak sandwich next time).

Division Council Meeting next Wednesday, Feb, 1, 7am: Rockbrook Garden Café.

Board Meeting: Scheduled for Valentine's Day, Feb. 14 at Jerry Katskee's office. You can either bring your spouse for a cheep date with small refreshments or the meeting could be rescheduled?

Happy Bucks: Bill Morrisson for the successful Plattsmouth interclub (despite the steak sandwich), John Seigel for sitting with "visitor" Teri Layton. Dennis Cronin for the multiple responses he received when he was contemplating being late for the meeting - and he still arrived on time! Ralph Peppard for being on the rebound from the "divorce trial from hell".

Speaker: Cindy Brison of the Nebraska Extension Service, Douglas / Sarpy Division, as guest of Vern Waldren and introduced by Master Gardener Ralph Peppard spoke about the Garden Clubs the extension service is promoting at various schools to teach the students how things grow and to appreciate it. (You mean vegetables don't come from the produce department at the grocery store?)

Enjoy this wonderful winter weather!

John Seigel
