Sunday, October 9, 2005 at noon, Ed Zorinsky Park.
A big Thank You goes to Teri Layton, who organized the Kiwanis Picnic. She provided excellent weather, some filtered sunshine and a bit of air movement. We met at the reserved picnic shelter. Joe Schmdtke brought a pork roast and I believe Jerry Katskee brought the kosher hot dogs. Many member provided their favorite side dishes. We had the opportunity to meet some of the members' spouses, children and dogs. And if you had no children of your own here, you (Dave and Barb) just brought a neighbor's child.
Rod Jones showed his ability to roll backwards over Teri Layton's dog, who had enjoyed a spot right behind Rod, who had been standing, without hurting himself. I am not sure if that was part of the entertainment or just to show how quick Rod is in reacting properly to adverse situations. It was good that Rod did not get hurt at all falling on the concrete floor.
Unfortunately I could not stay for the entire time, missing the planned games and competitions. Teri had prepared a bright fall colored paper sack full of surprises for each member present.
This is certainly an event worth repeating.
