Piccolos Restaurant, 2202 South 20th Street, Wednesday, October 12, 2006, 6:30 p.m.
What a fine place this is! I had never been in this beautiful restaurant. I guess it is a bit far from 161st and Dodge but was certainly worth it. Congratulations to Valerie Stoj for picking it.
Members, spouses and guests mingled for a social hour and then found their seats around a u-shaped table. If you were not there you should feel sorry.
Outgoing president Rich Bastman opened the meeting and lead in the pledge while new president Valerie Stoj got us started on the right (high) note for the patriotic song. The invocation was given by Lee Perkins. Rich Bastman had the members introduce their spouses and guests, including Joe Schmidtke' s brother.
After a fine dinner and very nice conversation around the table, Rich Bastman gave out some recognitions, nice certificates, to Bill Chilcoat, Rod Jones, Dave Huelsmann, Glen Fineman and Joe Schmidtke for jobs well done. Rich also thanked those officers who stepped in once or twice during his term when he was kept out of town on Wednesdays.
Rich then turned the program over to Lt. Governor Glenn Bauer of Div. 20, whose wife Carol accompanied him. Glenn lead the installation ceremony.
First Glenn thanked the outgoing directors, Jeanne Moore, Joe Schmidtke and the outgoing president Rich Bastman. Then Glenn invited the new directors up, namely (for a second term) Jeanne Moore and Vern Waldren (for one year for the remaining term of Joe Schmidtke, I believe). New director Rick Zwiener III was not able to be with us that evening.
Then the following officers were installed: Bill Chilcoat, Treasurer, Glen Fineman, Secretary (of 18 years), Joe (Jozef) Schmidtke, Vice President, Bruce Moulton, President Elect and finally, Velerie Stoj, President for 2006-2007. Valerie is now the proud owner of a acouple of new pins and a lot fo responsibility.
Valerie presented Rich Bastman with a plaque appreciating his service during the last year.
Another highlight of the evening was the installation of our newest member, Rob Butler. Valerie Stoj and Rod Jones lead the installation. Rod comes to us as a former member of Circle K and is a supervisor at West Telemarketing in the IT area. We are all happy to welcome Rod into our club.
Upcoming events:
October 18: Farmers National Company "Farming in Brazil". To be introduced by Ray Preston. (Was that 'advertising'?)
October 25: Congessman Lee Terry
October 28, about 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. dinner at Ronald McDonald House.
Bell ringing for the salvation Army Saturday, Dec. 9 at Bakers, 132nd and W. Center Rd. 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Temperatures are forcast to be below freezing, as usual).
Compliments need to go to Valerie Stoj who professionally prepared the programs and menues, as well as to good food and good service at Piccolos. My wife expressed that she really enjoyed talking to the people at our end of the table and it appears that everyone had a good time.
Dont' wish it were easier; wish you were better.
Don't wish for fewer problems; wish for more skills
Don't wish for fewer challenges; wish for more wisdom
